Understanding Diversity
Part of our work with young people is to help them to see the value of each individual regardless of culture, religion, ability, gender, sexual preference or any other characteristic but in addition to see how those differences between us contribute positively to our community.
On Wednesday 14th
December, 33 student performers (and 4 technicians) participated in a unique
Winston performance event: “Radio Woking Live: the Festive Voices”!
The show – which was held at 7pm
in the main hall – took the format of a variety show and comprised of a range
of interviews and sketches, all based on themes of diversity, religion,
national pride and identity. Highlights included an espionage thriller
featuring spies bickering about ‘the true meaning of Christmas’, a gaggle of
girl mates discovering the true meaning of friendship, a Nandos romance rocked
by a shocking story twist, through pieces about aliens and novelty cafes, a
morality tale set on an ill-conceived mid-winter camping trip and two wacky gameshows.
All portions of the show were charmingly linked by splendidly-dressed comperes
in years 10, 11 and 7.
Well done performers for creating
a terrific entertainment without buckling under the
pressure of live broadcast
on local radio!

Frog Play
To launch Frog Play to Year 7, I created a quiz which was
all about how year 7 are getting to know Winston as their first term draws to a
close.
An amazing 223 students out of the year 7 intake took the
challenge of the quiz with many showing real resilience in trying it more the
once to reach 100%. The questions were quite tricky, on a wide range of
topics such as the competencies, the Winston Way, Staff at Winston as well as
different locations around the school. 12 students from the year group were
awarded with certificates and prizes in their celebration assembly for gaining
100%. These students are:
Thomas Henri, Shiara Ellis, Ross MacDonald, Alfred Penrose, Sophie Weller, Diana Padilla, Sana Hussain, Federico Stella, Subhan Hamid, Luke Harrison, Ben Allison and Amaan Omar.
Also a special mention needs to go to Miss Harris who got
the highest score from all the tutors!

Dear Mr Toovey,
I would just like
to thank you and all of your wonderful students for preparing
such a fantastic morning full of enjoyable activities! Your Year 10's had
clearly put lots of thought and effort into each activity to ensure that they
were suitable for all ages, and I was very impressed with the way your students
managed them.
My class
thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and have not stopped talking about their
experiences since!
Thank
you again for having us, and we wish you all a very Merry Christmas!
