Year 9 Inspired

 Year 9 Textiles

Year 9 students in my textiles class were given the opportunity to create an Art Textiles piece, inspired by the work of artists such as Takashi Murakami, Keith Haring or  Echer. I was impressed with the high level of engagement that was seen in both the practical and theory-based work .

Here is small sample of their work, which celebrates the creativity, resilience and skill of our students.

Winston 7s Tournament

 #W7F

On Thursday 22nd May, our Year 7 Girls took part in an event to celebrate the #W7F tournament held from the 21st and 23rd of May.

At Winston, we like to adapt to make it a 'Winston Special' event. Instead of just focusing on the Football, we decided to have a day which featured a carousel of sports including football, netball, touch rugby and rounders which was led by our inspiring Year 9 girls' sports leaders. These leaders not only facilitated the sessions but also developed their own leadership skills in the process.

We concluded the day with a thoughtful reflection on the broader role of PE in our lives, highlighting how every individual contributes to our school community and how sport can inspire a healthy, active lifestyle whilst also building on their life skills. Our mission as a PE department is to empower young girls using sports as a vehicle to become the best versions of themselves.

The event would not have been possible without the support from all the PE department and a special mention to Miss Bow who supported the running of the event! It was a huge success, and we hope all the girls had a fun and enjoyable experience playing sports in a safe, inclusive and supportive environment.

 Year 8 Drama

Today Year 8 performed their script work pieces and then brought their scripts to life with all the design elements of costume, sound and lighting.
The students organized their own performance spaces using the resources of the classroom and created soundscapes showing great creativity and understanding of their characters.

Learning Through Experience

 Year 10 Biology

In Year 10 Biology, Mr Martin's class have been covering the function of white blood cells as part of the 'Infection & Response' topic, as revision for their upcoming mock exam.

To apply their knowledge of phagocytosis, students were asked to construct, using an app, a stop motion film of the biological process. The class worked really well, using plasticine to construct their models and a clamp to hold their phones in position to capture their creations. The end products were creative and concise, which were great to watch!

Celebrating Year 9

'On Tuesday morning the Year 9 students who attended the History Battlefields Trip were invited to a  cake and croissant celebration breakfast.

The celebration breakfast gave students a chance to reflect and share their favourite memories from the trip. Whilst recognising their superb conduct and engagement throughout the trip; showing a brilliant level of respect, maturity and responsibility.'

Well Done Year 9!'
