GCSE Results Day!

Congratulations Year 11!

The students were at Winston in force today, enjoying the moment, as they collected their GCSE and BTec/VCert Results.  The buzz was fantastic, as the student met up to compare outcomes and celebrate the hard work that went into achieving such great outcomes.  It is a special moment and a number of teachers were also in to share the experience.

Key Headlines:
25% of students achieved grades 7 - 9 in English.
64% achieved a grade 5 or above in English.
18% of students achieved grades 7 - 9 in Maths.
56% achieved a grade 5 or above in Maths.
80% of students achieved a grade 4 or above in English.
75.7% of students achieved a grade 4 or above in Maths.

The initial analysis of the results would indicate a positive Progress 8 figure for the first time!!  There is a note of caution, as the DfE will re-visit the Progress 8 formula in September and the number could change but  let's celebrate the achievement now.

Thank you to everyone, you all contributed to these results and you should be proud of the impact you have made to the lives of our students.  Thank you to Mr Fricker and his Year Team, you didn't give up and maintained a positive approach over the years, which laid the foundation for the outcomes.

We wish every student success with their future pathway and look forward to recognising their achievements at Awards Evening in November.

School Improvement

Progress Over Two Weeks

The plans to develop the environment across the school are moving at pace:

Below you can see that the music corridor is having a complete make-over; the walls have been plastered and painted and new images are on order.

 The recesses have been removed.

Some students may be able to recognise the three images below.  A wall has been removed and the space up-graded to support our new positive approach to behaviour management.

Below is the main hall.  The old heating vents have been removed.

And the heating and cooling units installed.

Below is an image of the main corridor along the side of the hall. new radiant panels have been fitted to the ceiling in preparation for the removal of the old glass panels that form one wall of the hall.

Rooms 4 and 5 have also received a makeover.

Currently room 5 is awaiting a white teaching wall.

New display boards in area 31.
