Welcome Year 6

 Winston's Open Evening

Our whole school community welcomed Year 6 students and their parents to our Open Evening on Thursday 28th September.

Over six hundred families streamed through the doors, eager to discover the world that is Winston.  I know that parents have a choice but we want to ensure that families are fully informed, when making this difficult decision. 

Following a presentation in the hall, our guests were taken on a tour around each are of the school by our well-informed and helpful Year 7 and 8 students.  These students were keen to show off their school and to answer questions.

We are now looking forward to showing parents and their children around on a working day.

Winston welcomed 60 Year 6 students this week to explore the Classical world and what it offers us today. Supported by GCSE Latin students throughout the morning, Year 6 considered their decision making and risk taking by analysing the myth of Daedalus and Icarus; decoded Roman Numeral ciphers; enjoyed storytelling in the stars in Woking Planetarium; and explored the world of Harry Potter through Latin vocabulary. 

Students left teeming with new knowledge. We were proud to host these enthusiastic students and look forward to inviting them back in the Spring term to take part in Winston's Primary Latin Reading Competition.
