Working on Glass
We have installed new glass walls in room 28 to replace white boards and pin boards. The coloured glass brightens up the room, provide an excellent surface to work collaboratively and are now being used in a number of ways.
Winston at Harlequins
'The Winston Churchill School were extremely lucky to have been invited to participate in the Rugby Festival hosted by Harlequins Rugby Club, at their home ground 'The Stoop', last week. With thanks to Premiership Rugby this festival was hosted by a number of players from Harlequins Ladies (including Leah Lyons, Jade Konkel & Becky Rowe) and their Elite Academy Squad (including Hugh Tizard, Jack Mush, George Hammond & Luke James).
This festival focussed on introducing girls to the sport, so we took 31 female students who were coached by these professionals. They took part in several drills with the emphasis on 'fun' and managed to put their learnt skills into action by playing a mini tournament at the end of the day. The students had an amazing time and demonstrated excellent manners in representing the school. Here are just a few photographs illustrating this:
As a school we hold a girls rugby extra-curricular club on
Wednesdays so please come along and give it a go! Harlequins are also hosting a 2 day camp on 25th & 26th October with Harlequins & England player Rachael Burford. Please go to
www.rugbycamps.co.uk/harlequins for more information and bookings.
Art Attack: The Heart
On Tuesday 25th September, a class of GCSE PE students where split into two teams and asked to put their creative flair and prior learning to the test. Using socks, cones, spare kit, benches and whatever other bits and bobs I could find the students had to create a fully labelled diagram demonstrating the journey of blood around the body. Both teams showed superb ingenuity and collaboration during the task and everyone contributed in some way to the completion of their own 'big art'.
