Christmas Wish

Our world needs peace and kindness.

Regardless of your faith or beliefs, this period of time is for families and friends to think about each other and to spend a little extra time caring.

My Christmas wish for you, is that you are able to have the space and time to be together, to value what we have and share it with others.

Christmas Experience in MFL

Auf dem Weihnachtsmarkt! Au marché de Noël!

Pop-up MFL Christmas Market

A huge thank you to the MFL Prefect team and Language Leaders in years 7-11 who have been running stalls at the MFL Christmas Market this week.

They demonstrated fantastic entrepreneurial and collaborative skills as students from across the age range worked together to sell their produce.

Market-goers were able to buy a range of continental delicacies such as German Lebkuchen, Belgian chocolate waffles, Dutch Stroopwaffels, as well as French cakes and crêpes.

Students were also able to buy traditional wooden tree decorations, Christmas pencils and take part in a raffle to win an extra-large chocolate bar!

German Christmas Biscuit Baking.

Year 7 students were given the chance to bake some traditional German Christmas biscuits with Milena, our German Tutor.

First of all, students learnt about the typical flavours of Christmas time in Germany. They then had to work out the German words for each ingredient before having a go at translating the baking equipment and task instructions.

Students worked very well together in creating their festive biscuits and Milena was impressed by their creativity, baking skills and team work.

Congratulations to the winners: Andrew, Poppy and Georgia.

Well done to everyone who took part!

Thank you to Mrs Vadi for letting us use her Food Room.

MFL Celebrating Christmas

Frohe Weihnachten! Joyeux Noël!

Thank you to our German and French tutors, Milena and Marion, who helped to run the Year 7 Christmas Market roleplay sessions over the last couple of weeks, enabling students to experience this aspect of culture and tradition, while practising key language skills.

Students got the chance to experience the taste and smell of traditional Christmas food, such as waffels, crêpes, double chocolate biscuits and Lebkuchen (gingerbread biscuits) which are all typically sold at the Christmas Markets in France and Germany.

Students ordered their preferred food in German or French, before paying the correct amount from their plastic euros. They did an excellent job of interacting with the market sellers and ordering and paying for their snacks in target language!

Christmas at Winston

Christmas Pantomime

Year 7 took to the stage in class this morning to perform their Christmas pantomimes.
Students have been learning the art of pantomimes: call and response "he's behind you!", breaking the fourth wall, costume, makeup and understanding how to narrate using jokes whilst embodying role of Pantomime Dame.

Students worked hard on these performances for 5 weeks incorporating everything they learned in their lessons. We had some fabulous characters and brilliant renditions of famous classics Cinderella and Jack and the Beanstalk!
Well done 7CN!

🎄 Well Done Year 7  🎄

Mrs Jones and Miss Reynolds Year 7 Classes saw the Year 10 creating the snowflakes/Christmas  filled with chocolate spread, Biscoff spread or pesto and grated cheese and wanted to give it ago. We were blown away with the tree creations and how well they worked on shaping and cutting the trees accurately. We have already heard that some parents have asked them to recreate the dish again for family gatherings over the Winter Holiday! Great work to both Year 7 classes.
