Christmas Crafting 🎅
This week, festive cheer began to spread, and students gathered together for an after-school Christmas crafting session. Using kits and craft supplies donated by Miss Townsend's family, students demonstrated not only their ingenuity and imagination, but also their thoughtfulness as they created cards for their family, friends, and teachers. They carefully followed and adapted example decorations to create mice with candy cane tails and festive note holders to gift, and let their creativity shine when painting ceramic baubles. Miss Townsend and Miss Sandling had a lovely afternoon Christmas crafting, watching our students collaborate with and encourage each other.
Sky Studios Trip
Recently, a group of Year 7 & 8 students were invited to visit Sky Studios in London. The purpose of the trip was to allow students to explore the career possibilities in the media and understand the roles and rules of the workplace.
Firstly the group were briefed on some of the latest inventions at Sky including their new surround sound TV’s before being taught how a green screen works. Before the main activity, Sky were kind enough to let the group visit the Monday Night Football studio which brought a lot of excitement form everyone!
In groups of 6, each accompanied by a Sky Mentor, the students were able to work in a mini-studio to produce a news piece which would be joined together to make the final report at the end of the day. Each group had access to Sky props, cameras, microphones and editing software. This gave students the opportunity to adopt certain roles e.g. video editor, cameraman, producer & news host. It was great to see the imagination of the students and their ability to work under time pressures in a team to produce the final outcome which we were all able to watch.
Finally, Sky allowed the group to walk into Sky News where live broadcasts were being held meaning total silence was needed.
The trip tied nicely into Careers week and gave students an insight into what roles are out there in the media.
