Music Concert including Primary Orchestra

The Autumn Concert

On Thursday 20th November the Music Department held our annual Autumn Concert in the Performance Space. This concert, which is the smaller of our two ensemble concerts we run in the Autumn term, saw over 110 Winston students and 31 students from our Primary Orchestra take to the stage. The concert featured some of our established ensembles (Big Band, Session Band, Junior Session Band, and our Boys Voices Choir) as well as some Winston firsts in our new Year 10 Studio Band and new Cello Ensemble (set up and run by Year 10 student Lana). In addition the concert featured one of our student bands, MOTIVE, and our phenomenal Primary Orchestra which has been meeting on Wednesday evening's throughout the Autumn term. A packed audience were treated to outstanding performances from all the groups. The Music Department would like to say a huge well done to all of the students for their excellent performances and would also like to thank Miss Wells and her student tech team who managed all of the lighting and sound for the event.

Attention now turns to our Young Singer of the Year competition (11th December) and Christmas Concert (16th December), as well as our advent calendar which will be going live on Monday. This will feature performances from some of our fantastic groups, with new performances added each day. In addition some of our brass ensemble will be supporting Woking Hospice's Light Up event and student band MOTIVE will be performing at the opening of the Hospice Christmas Market this weekend.

Careers Fair: Finding Your Pathway

 Pathway to Your Future

On a snowy morning last week, we welcomed a range of exhibitors for our annual Careers Fair.  This is part of a sequence of events that start in Year 7 and support children to know themselves, to develop through the Winston competencies and skills and to find a range of pathways, as they transition into young adults.

Our Careers Team plan the event and then ensure that, through tutor time and assemblies, the students are fully prepared to make the most of the fair.  The students then also attend a presentation, which focusses on those pathways and the skills that you need to develop to be successful.

We are grateful to the exhibitors who come in to provide essential information and take the time to discuss routes and qualifications with our students. It means a great deal to have representatives from industry and colleges and that students can gain advice from different voices not just teachers!

Thank you to Mrs Hope-Mulder for organising the Fair and to an outstanding group of students for their work throughout the day to support the exhibitors.

Below are some of the companies and colleges who were supporting our students .
We really appreciate the time and effort from these exhibitors, as they make such a difference in demonstrating the breadth of opportunities available to our children.
