Drama at Winston
It has been a big half-term for Drama at The Winston Churchill School. Students from all year groups have committed to working hard on the various activities across the department both inside and outside of the classroom.
Year 11 have been working on their mock examinations, studying Blood Brothers for their set text and learning about how their own vocal and physical interpretations of a role can be applied to extended writing. We have been delighted with the enthusiasm and hard work shown by the students this year who continue to impress.
We are delighted to announce that we're returning with the main school production of The Addams Family in February 2026. With a cast and crew of 280, with more to come, we are certain that the students will do you proud. Rehearsals are fully underway and each year, the students absolutely wow us with their dedication and talent.
The Student Leadership Team continues to go from strength to strength and has expanded from an original 12 students in 2023 to well over 50 from all year groups! With additional roles being added to the team like Art Directors, Creative Teams and Development Mentors. Their determination and efforts allow for such a large scale with the productions and we are very impressed by what they achieve when they all work together. The students in this team has produced a series of videos that explain what they do across the department and how they help support others students in the show as a whole!
On Fridays, nearly 80 year 7 students attend Drama club. Which is run and organised by our wonderful prefect team. Students get to experience a wider range of Drama games and improvised performances after school and have been growing their own skills and confidence.
Over the half-term, the Drama department has had it's very own make-over, with updated displays and some brand new display boards for a rapidly expanding Student Leadership Team. We are looking forward to sharing this work with the students when we return after the half-term break.
Finally, we are delighted to say that we've been made finalists for a national award in musical theatre alongside the music department. We are so proud of the standard the students achieve in the productions and this recognition for their hard work really is amazing news!
We look forward to sharing more updates in the Autumn term.
