Year 10 Rugby
Below is a picture of the year 10 rugby team who have only lost
once this term in 8 matches. They beat Weydon school 39 - 5 in the 3rd round of
the county cup last night.
Their Head of PE had this to say about the team, " I
wanted to complement your player who was honest about having gone over the dead
ball line. A fantastic piece of sportsmanship and a real credit to himself and
his team. Please make a point of complimenting him on this act and your team in
general for their conduct and standard of play."
This comment was made about Dan Peterson, who showed an
exceptional piece of sportsmanship, telling the referee his foot was indeed in
touch, when he was awarded a try and the referee should reverse the decision.
Be Smart, Be Safe
On Friday 4th December, all Year 9 students were
involved in our annual Be Smart Be Safe Day. Throughout the day students
experienced eight sessions including first aid, drug awareness, ‘know you
limits’ (alcohol awareness), mental health and resilience, anti-social behaviour,
personal hygiene, anti-bullying and social media. All sessions were focussed on
safety.
We are extremely grateful to all our providers, from
professionals (including two of our staff) to four of our A.B.C. Leaders, who
worked tirelessly throughout the day. The feedback from students and staff has
been extremely positive and we are already looking forward to our Be Smart Be
Safe Evening for parents on:
Thursday 25th February at 7pm. We
hope to see many of you there.
The Christmas Breakfast Club
A number of young people enjoy attending a breakfast club, run by Mr Davis, each morning. This enables some of our students to start the day with good food, in a positive social environment and the opportunity to engage in some board games and conversations.Today students invited staff to a special Christmas breakfast, which proved to be a both tasty and fun.
Year 11 Celebrate!
The end of term for Year 11 signals the end of the mock examinations and an opportunity to relax over the Christmas period before the big drive towards the final GCSE and BTEC examinations. At the beginning of the assebly, the senior prefects, led by David Stacey and Rachel Muir, presented a cheque for £2204.38 to a representative of the charity SANDs. This is a local charity which supports anyone who has been affected by the death of a baby before, during or shortly after birth. They offer emotional support and information for parents, grandparents, siblings, children, families and friends, health professionals and others. This was followed by a recognition of the work of the tutors and the Year team as a whole. Awards were then presented to students for Positive Contributions to the school and for Academic Achievement. Colours were awarded to those students who have been serving on the school council and Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Awards, were also presented. Katie Samuel received the Owen Davis Award for service to the school.
The assembly also celebrated the musical achievements, with a number of highly polished performances.
Well done Year 11! Enjoy your break and we look forward to a very productive spring term.
