Year 9 Gymnastics

Year 9 gymnastics- the added challenege and resilience these girls have shown over the last 3 weeks in developing gymnastics skills incorporating flight has been incredible. This week the students were exceptional as they had to collaborate within a group, to create a routine based around the theme of flight and a sub theme of pathways. The girls demonstrated great creativity when planning and executing their routines.

 Year 11

As part of our revised key stage 4 girls PE curriculum,  the Year 11 girls are all taking part in a unit of worked called "fit4 life" the unit involved the use of hula hoops, dyna bands as well as yoga and relaxation. The aim of this unit is to encourage the girls to continue exercise after school and into college with simple tools and techniques you can use at home. (Picture of relaxation section)

They will receive certificates in assembly for their hard work. There will be three key words quizzes set over the next couple of days for year 7 for English, Science and History.

Year 10 Design Technology

The students were hard at work designing and making in metal.  The steel was being cut and shaped to produce a range of articles.  I look forward to seeing the finished products.

Fabulous Lunch

Catering Academy prepared and served a delicious Greek Style lunch.  Students and staff enjoyed new flavours, the breads and the salads.

The Snow Dragons

National Theatre Connections 2017

It was a great pleasure to go to Chichester, on Wednesday evening, to watch our students perform a brand new play, The Snow Dragons by Lizzy Nunnery.


The students were outstanding and performed the play with confidence and commitment.  The blend of humour, with the serious content of the story, was executed very effectively to create a thoroughly enjoyable evening of theatre.


Thank you to everyone involved, under the direction of Mr Donaldson and to parents for making the journey to Chichester.  The video clip below has been produced by Tyrese, Deputy Head Boy, showing the rehearsals for the play.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate you all on a really fantastic performance last night. Your young people displayed such professionalism throughout the day – they were a real pleasure to work with.

I hope you were happy with the outcome as we had some lovely feedback from audience members and those of us that worked with you throughout the day were really proud of the poignant and heartfelt message your piece displayed so clearly.

You should all be delighted.

On a personal note, I just wanted to say what a pleasure it’s been working with you and your team on this project and I really hope to do so again in the future.

Our Work at Winston

Working in Partnership

It was great to welcome a team of Senior Leaders, from our Partnership schools, to Winston, on Friday 17th March.  Each member of the team had a programme of classroom visits, discussions with staff and question and answer sessions with students.  The aim is to share ideas and create a professional dialogue.

Year 7 Maths Challenge

A group of talented Year 7 Mathematicians joined the Year 10 Maths Leaders for a session of problem solving during tutorial time.

Barista Success

The first cohort of students have successfully completed their Barista Qualifications, having faced a challenging practical examination, alongside the written paper. Students had to make seven different types of coffee in 16 minutes and were outstanding.  Well done to all the students and to our tutor Mrs Clark for guiding these young people to achieve a qualification, which may well secure them full or part-time employment in the future.

Assembly this Week

We were delighted to welcome Patrick to our assemblies this week, to talk about the role of Young Carers and the pressure that this can place on students.  Many of our students will be unaware of the challenges faced by a few of our young people as they support parents or siblings with illnesses or addiction.  This can mean that they have very little free time to be a child and have pressures and responsibilities which most children find hard to imagine.

Below are some images form the recent recitals held at the school, to which parents and friends were invited. As you can see from the programme students displayed their talents through a wide range of challenging music and at Key Stage 4 presented pieces that they had composed themselves. It was lovely to spend sometime listening to the performances and celebrating the development of these outstanding young people.

Key Stage 3 Recital Evening

This was the first time we’ve held a recital evening purely for KS3 students as the number of students coming forward wanting to perform is just amazing. In fact we had so many from Year’s 8 and 9 we didn’t ask any students from Year 7 and will need to hold another event later in the year! All of the students involved gave fantastic performances and the parents who came to watch were all really impressed with the standard.

I am delighted to announce that the Governors of the Winston Churchill School have approved the plan, the funding and the building company for the Library Project.  We aim to sign the contract by the end of next week and work can then start in April.  Mr Phillips, our school Business Manager, has done an amazing job in raising the funds to complete this project for you and your children to enjoy.


This is for your children and we hope that you will help us with the last bit of fund raising so that it can be furnished and equipped to ensure maximum use.  Your sons and daughters will be able to start using the facility from February 2018 so lets work together to create the environment they deserve.
