Grease, it's Electrifying!!!

Winston Owns Grease!

I enjoyed a fabulous evening on Saturday, watching our students perform 'Grease'. This was an outstanding production and ranks as one of the best shows that Winston has ever created.  The acting, singing and dancing was impressive and clearly the students enjoyed every minute of the show.  Every individual from Year 7 through to Year 11 gave their best and I am so proud of each and every one who took part.  A special mention to the Pit Band, who are also outstanding and the Tech Team who ran the show brilliantly, requiring no support from the adults.  Enjoy the images below; thank you Ms Shorey for the costumes and for some of the photographs from your daughter Eleanor!

Thank you to every one involved, Mr Donaldson and his team and Mr Drake and the Music Department.  You are awesome!

Grease

Grease!

Just a few images below of our amazing students performing at the Rhoda MaGaw Theatre.  There will be more to follow next week.  The reviews so far from parents, staff and our local primary schools have been outstanding.  I am anticipating a brilliant final performance on Saturday evening!

Active Learning

Celebrating La Chandeleur

Our  Year 7 French students celebrated la Chandeleur by making their own crêpes, after school with our French assistant Cyrille Roda and myself. Mrs Vadi very kindly let us use her classroom and helped us make this activity a success. A lot of fun and a sweet reward at the end!

Year 8 Display Project

Below are some photographs of a Year 8 display project that Mr O'Dell and Mr Lighton's class are currently making. The basis of the project is that a team of students design a room of a house, then the rooms are all put together to form one big house. The blueprints were hand draw by Eve Pascall (8MOD) completely off her own accord, and she has been leading this project in class time. I followed her drawings and cut out the ground floor and the top floor so they would fit together. The aim of this project is to use it as a display for parents evenings/ yr 9 options evening to promote the new Key Stage 4 GCSE Product Design Course and as as a temporary display in the new library. This group have worked very hard on this project and have displayed a very high level of cooperation, communication and ingenuity. Mr O'Dell, Mr Lighton and Mr King have said that they act more like Year 11's than Year 8's, as they are so focused and mature in class.  This group are a credit to themselves and the school.

Creative Learning

Creative Learning

Students in Year 11 are now learning their second wave of religious quotes in GCSE Religious Studies. Last September students began preparing for the mock exam which was Component 2. They had monthly booklets of quotes to help them understand Christian and Muslim attitudes to themes such as Crime and Punishment, and War and Conflict. Now that our review of the mock exam has concluded students are relishing the chance to prepare for the Component 1 paper. The first homework was writing the quotes out in the booklet. The second homework was selecting five favourite quotes and each day writing the quotes out once. Not everybody quite understood the instructions! We did this to test the idea of Spaced Learning and Retrieval, something students have learnt about in the Tutor Time Revision sessions.

However it was the third homework which saw some students have some real fun with their learning. Classes were given very open ended instructions to create something artistic with their favourite five quotations. Chloe Davidson and Maria Kaluska worked together to write a poem. Charan Sankar not only created a hand-drawn cartoon but also linked a quote to the work of his favourite mathematician.
