Year 11 Celebrate

 Celebrating Five Years at Winston

Year 11 students sat their final maths assessment on Friday morning and then made their way up to the field for a mini festival.

Mr Martin arrived early on Friday morning to organise the event.

As students left the Sports Hall, all the staff gathered on the patio and gave the students a round of applause.  Students in the surrounding classrooms also clapped and cheered Year 11.

The students partied throughout the afternoon, with a BBQ, music and various games, including an assault course.  They have had so little opportunity to be together, that it was great to see them celebrate in this way.  Year Books were distributed and the ritual of signing both books and shirts began.

I wish you a successful life, as you use your Winston skills to over-come challenges and set backs, always be the best that you can be.

Year 8 Team Building

 Team Building at Winston

No screens, no phones, a day without technology, solving problems together.

As part of our curriculum offer, the WCSC have developed a Leadership Skills activity day which took place on Wednesday. Mrs Lewis and Mr Doel planned and organised this second Activity Day for all of our Year 8 students, on the field.  It is one of the few occasions that they have all been together as a Year Group and with limited opportunities recently to work together it seemed the perfect opportunity to collaborate.

Following the Year 7 day, some changes were made to the activities and different tasks were included.  The learning programme required students to work in groups of different sizes and apply classroom learning from the Winston Extra curriculum to situations beyond the in-school environment. Activities included orienteering, team tasks & various initiative activities, with each session being followed by dedicated reflective learning exercises, led by school staff, focusing on developing their emotional intelligence, self-awareness, self-perception and confidence as learners, communicators, team members and leaders. Year 8 have had their education disrupted by the pandemic in both of their years at Winston and re-engaging with their peers face to face was challenging for some. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience as you can see in the photographs. We look forward to seeing how the students incorporate the skills they learnt today in their lessons!

Year 7 Team Building

 Year 7 Future Leaders

Mrs Lewis and Mr Doel planned and organised an Activity Day for all of our Year 7 students, on the field.  It is one of the few occasions that they have all been together as a Year Group and with limited opportunities recently to work together it seemed the perfect opportunity to collaborate.

As part of our curriculum offer, the WCSC have developed a Leadership Skills activity day which took place today. Delivered through outdoor education, the learning programme required students to work in groups of different sizes and apply classroom learning from the Winston Extra curriculum to situations outside the in-school environment. Activities included orienteering, team tasks and various initiative activities, with each session being followed by dedicated reflective learning exercises, led by school staff, focusing on developing their emotional intelligence, self-awareness, self-perception, confidence as learners, communication skills, teamwork and leadership skills. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience as you can see in the photographs. We look forward to seeing how the students incorporate the skills they learnt today in their lessons!

The rain held off for the morning and then students went back to their lesson for period 5.

There are some great pictures for the Year Book in 2025!
