Winston Lets Girls Play

Key Stage 3 Girls Play Football

Our Annual #LetGirlsPlay KS3 Girls Football Day was another huge success, bringing together over 400 girls from years 7-9 for a full day of football, teamwork and enjoyment!

The morning kicked off with year group football tournaments, where every student took part with brilliant enthusiasm. The atmosphere across the pitches was buzzing - girls encouraging each other, celebrating goals and embracing the spirit of a friendly competition. Each year group crowned its own champions, with the winning teams receiving well-deserved prizes for their efforts with great finals in front of the whole year group watching and supporting from the sides!

Following the tournaments, 60 selected students (20 from each year group) took part in a special training session, expertly led by our fantastic year 10 girl leaders. These leaders - key members of our year 10 Girls Football Team - delivered a coaching session before guiding the girls through competitive small-sided games. Their confidence, leadership and professionalism shone throughout.

A huge shout out to our phenomenal Year 10 Leaders, whose energy, commitment and positive made the entire day run smoothly. Their contribution continues to inspire younger students and strengthen the culture of girls' football within our school.

The Year 10 Leaders for the day:
Bella, Annabelle, Aimee, Ava, Elsie, Jess, Clara, Clemmie, Leila, Kira, Amelie, Sarah, Amelia, Tillie, Lyra, Abbie and Maisie.

To round off the day, our Year 10 Leaders (plus an additional few) enjoyed a 10v10 match of their own, given them a chance to relax, have fun and celebrate all the hard work they put into officiating, organising and supporting the tournaments.

Thank you to everyone involved for making this our third consecutive year of delivering a fun, enjoyable and inspiring #LetGirlsPlay celebration - here's to many more to come!

The 'Winston' Awards

 Performing Arts Awards

On Thursday 5th March the Drama and Music Departments held their annual Performing Arts Awards Evening in the main hall. The evening is an opportunity for the departments to reward excellence in the performing arts that has taken place over the last year. As has become tradition, students, and their supporting family and friends, dressed in their finest and all of the nominees sat at awards tables for the event. The evening opened with a fantastic montage video put together by our AV technician, Miss Wells.

It highlighted events such as 100 Years of Musicals (Summer 2025), the Autumn and Christmas Concerts (Autumn term 2025) and our production of The Addams Family (Spring 2026). Staff from both departments then took to the stage to present awards such as 'acting through song' (for 100 Years), 'vocalist of the year', 'string player of the year' and 'best actor/actress'. As the winners came up on stage to receive their awards they did so to composition work from our Year 10 and 11 music tech students.

In addition there were live performances from the Session Band and from the cast and pit band of The Addams Family. The evening culminated in the awarding of the prestigious Tech Award, Drama Award and M.U.S.I.C award. All of the nominees for these awards were asked to come to the stage as we celebrated each of their phenomenal contributions to the arts at Winston, with the winners then crowned; Holly, Alex, Amelia, Lily and Emie.

The Music and Drama Departments would like to congratulate all of the students who were nominated for an award and look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events this academic year.

Great Team Performance

Tchoukball Champions
On Friday 6th March two Tchoukball teams ( Year 9 & Year 10) descended upon the Stoke Mandeville Stadium, Aylesbury for the annual  National Youth Tchoukball Finals.

Both teams started positively and this continued throughout the day. Every score line was close, but it was Winston that handled the pressure to score the winning points in the final seconds of each game.

Despite playing against students with international experience and a year older, the Year 10's had every chance of making the final. However, defensively they weren't as sharp as the top 2 teams. Overall, they can be proud of finishing 3rd for the 2nd year in a row.

The Year 9's managed to go the whole tournament unbeaten, claiming the top prize! Since linking with Guildford Tchoukball club in September, the players have attended every session, building their skills and experience with coach James & Charlie. The team are a prime example of what results anyone can achieve if you put the time and effort in.

4 of the team then also contributed to back-to-back victories for Guildford Tchoukball this weekend in the Regional League.

We are extremely proud of both teams and hope that this inspires many more students to come and attend Tchoukball Club, every Wednesday.

French Reading Skills

 Boukili

'At the beginning of the school year, we introduced Boukili, a reading app, to support our students in developing their French reading skills and discovering new French books and vocabulary. Since then, we have been absolutely blown away by the success of this initiative and the level of engagement shown by our students.
It has been fantastic to see their enthusiasm for French reading, with many students discovering new words every week and building their confidence along the way. Their commitment to completing the reading challenges and their excitement in discovering new vocabulary have contributed to the success of the initiative.
Congratulations to Izzy for her amazing work. She is currently the Top French Reader in Year 7. What an outstanding achievement!
We are now looking forward to seeing who will take the final title, with the end-of-competition taking place on 27th March. Remember, great rewards are waiting for you, keep reading and keep discovering!'
