French and German Christmas Traditions

 Frohe Weihnachten! Joyeux Noël!

Thank you to our German and French tutors, Isabel and Mady, who helped to run the Year 7 Christmas Market roleplay sessions over the last couple of weeks, enabling students to experience this aspect of culture and tradition, while practising key language skills.

Students got the chance to experience the taste and smell of traditional Christmas food, such as cinnamon biscuits, double chocolate biscuits and Lebkuchen (gingerbread biscuits) which are all typically sold at the Christmas Markets in France and Germany.

Students ordered their preferred food in German or French, before paying the correct amount from their plastic euros. They did an excellent job of interacting with the market sellers and ordering and paying for their snacks in target language!

Auf dem Weihnachtsmarkt! Au marché de Noël!

Pop-up MFL Christmas Market

A huge thank you to the MFL Prefect team and Language Leaders in Years 7-10 who ran stalls at the MFL Christmas Market last week.

They demonstrated fantastic entrepreneurial and collaborative skills as students from across the age range worked together to sell their produce.

Market-goers were able to buy a range of continental delicacies such as German Lebkuchen, Belgian chocolate waffles, Dutch Stroopwaffels, as well as French cakes and crêpes.

Students were also able to buy traditional wooden tree decorations, Christmas pencils and take part in a raffle to win an extra-large chocolate bar!

Macbeth at Winston

 An Intense, Outstanding Production

Happy prologues to the swelling act

Happy Prologues to the Swelling Act
Since the summer, our talented students have been tirelessly preparing for their production of Macbeth. Not only did they master the complexities of Shakespearean language, but they also brought their characters to life with remarkable authenticity and depth. Their efforts made us immensely proud. As staff, we were truly in awe of their dedication and passion throughout this challenging but rewarding journey.
A Team Effort
"Congratulations to all the students who contributed to this incredible production. The collaborative spirit was evident in every aspect of the show. The visual and sound effects created a tense, immersive atmosphere, perfectly complementing the students' excellent delivery of Shakespeare's lines. It was an absolute joy to witness their hard work come to fruition. Well done!" - Mrs. Hamilton
Technical Brilliance
The technical teams, under the expert guidance of Mr. Major, excelled in their roles. They crafted a spooky, post-apocalyptic atmosphere through the use of sirens, alarms, strobe lighting, and haze. These elements heightened the intensity of the performance, while subtle microphone adjustments ensured every actor's voice was clear and powerful.
Audience Praise
"It was one of the most mind-blowing productions I have ever seen. The combination of Shakespeare’s challenging language and the children’s phenomenal passion made it unforgettable. The post-apocalyptic theme added a unique and intriguing layer to the show." - Parent comment.
Leadership and Teamwork
Behind the scenes, the student leadership team took charge of various critical aspects of the production. From set dressing, stage management, and props to program design, makeup, special effects, filming, and event management, they handled every responsibility with impressive dedication and skill. We also extend our gratitude to the many volunteers who lent a hand—whether it was painting a block, adding graffiti to the set, or crafting special effects makeup for the actors. Your contributions made all the difference.
Outstanding Performances
"The production of Macbeth was incredible! I was amazed by the students’ ability to memorise such difficult lines and deliver them with conviction and enthusiasm. It was wonderful to see so many students involved, clearly enjoying themselves." - Mrs Harnett.
The cast poured a special level of passion and attention into every scene. Months of rehearsals, blocking, stage combat workshops and studying Shakespeare’s language culminated in performances filled with energy and understanding. Each character’s appearance on stage was electrifying and enthralling.
Thank you
We would like to thank the families who supported us by attending the shows. Your applause and kind words meant so much to everyone involved. The overwhelmingly positive reviews have been heart warming. We are incredibly proud of what your children have achieved and look forward to working with these talented, creative, and resourceful students again in the future.
