 Brookwood Fete

At the weekend 2 bands from year 8 and year 9, Ecstasy and Twisted, played at the Brookwood Primary School fete. Both bands were selected to play having previously impressed at our Battle of the Bands event.

They chose the songs they played, organised rehearsals beforehand and produced a brilliant performance in the sunshine keeping everyone entertained with their music throughout the afternoon and they did so well that we have already been asked back for next year.

"Well done to all involved!"

Geography Field Trip

 Woking Town Centre Field Trip

On Wednesday 4th June, Year 10 GCSE geography students went to Woking, to investigate the effects of the regeneration of the Town Centre through the public’s eyes. It was a great opportunity to study in the real world and to gain experience of fieldwork. We drew a field sketch, took photographs, and conducted surveys where we asked locals on their opinion on the Town Centre’s development. We then had to reach a conclusion and now feel prepared for our upcoming Geography mock that will assess our understanding of fieldwork methods.

Learning New Skills

 Key Stage 4 Sports Skills

Both Sports Skills classes, taught by Mr Martin and Miss De Bunsen have started positively. Picked as one of their options moving into KS4, the students have begun the exam content, focusing on the skeletal and muscular system. In order to apply their knowledge and use the information practically, both classes have seen a teacher led trotter dissection as well as working in groups to dissect a chicken leg. The lesson allowed everyone to see the role of ligaments and tendons in addition to identifying the major bones and muscles involved.

We are looking forward to continuing the positive start both classes have made.

Year 7 D/T Desk Storage Trays
After February half term a new group of students  entered the workshops for their first Design Technology lesson. They were introduced to their first project designing and making a "storage tray". They conducted some research, exploring items they wanted their tray to hold, who the tray would be for and what it's purpose would be.

They then entered the planning phase including the use of 2D design; so with their project planned they were taught how to select and use the appropriate tools to manufacture their design. Following extensive sanding and tweaking, the vacuum former for used and again more snipping, filing and finishing touches and their creation of as complete. Here are some examples of their storage trays.

Celebrating Year 11

 Festival of Celebration

Five years seems like a long time when your 11 years old and then suddenly it's over and you are leaving Winston!
Today students went from the final core exam, Maths, straight into the Leavers Assembly, planned and presented by Ms Shahid.  There was a buzz of excitement around the hall, as a whole range of awards were made and trophies handed out! It is the last time that the Year Group will all be together and they were generous and vocal with their support for each other, throughout the assembly.

Then the students received a round of applause as they walked up to the field.  Students and staff stopped work to come out onto the patio to celebrate the Year 11 students and provide recognition that they are almost at the end of their time in the school.

Once on the field, shirt signing came first, then ice-cream, burgers and games. Mrs Jones had planned and organised the afternoon, which also included collecting hoodies and year books!

And on the field...

A huge thank you to Mrs Jones and Ms Shahid, who have been planning today's events for weeks.

Well done Year 11! We wish you every success for your future.  As sad as it is to leave, you have a sparkling future ahead.
