Christmas in MFL

 German Christmas Biscuit Baking

Year 7 students have been busy baking some traditional cinnamon and ginger flavoured German Christmas biscuits with Emily, our German Tutor.

First of all, students had to work out the German words for each ingredient before having a go at translating the baking equipment and task instructions.

Students worked very well together in creating their festive biscuits and Emily was impressed by their baking skills, teamwork and efficient tidying up!

It was difficult for Emily to pick the Masterchef German biscuit baking champion 2025 but this accolade went to Bella. Congratulations also go to runners up Sarah and Aidan.

Well done to everyone who took part!

Thank you to the Year 10 MFL Prefect Team and Language Leaders as well as Mrs Kalinka for supporting the session.

Year 7 French students will have the opportunity to bake ‘Galettes des Rois’, with Emma, our French Tutor, in the new year!

Thank you to Mrs Vadi for letting us use her Food room.

This year's winners of the German Christmas Translation Competition are Sapphire (Year 8) and Oliver (Year 9.) They both put a lot of effort and care into their translations of the German Christmas song "Weihnachtszauber" (Christmas magic) and have created beautiful pieces of work! Well done for your excellent contributions!

Special mention also goes to Alina, Paul and Eloise in Year 8 and Alexandra in Year 9 for their impressive entries.

If you would like to listen to the song, you can find it in on the Year 8 German portal

Christmas at Winston

Frohe Weihnachten! Joyeux Noël!

Thank you to our German and French tutors, Emily and Emma, who helped to run the Year 7 Christmas Market roleplay sessions over the last couple of weeks, enabling students to experience this aspect of culture and tradition, while practising key language skills.

Students got the chance to experience the taste and smell of traditional Christmas food, such as waffels, crêpes, double chocolate biscuits and Lebkuchen (gingerbread biscuits) which are all typically sold at the Christmas Markets in Germany and France.

Students ordered their preferred food in German or French, before paying the correct amount with their plastic euros. They did an excellent job of interacting with the market sellers and ordering and paying for their snacks in target language!

A number of children have selected a book as their next adventure into literature.

Touch Rugby

On Tuesday night, with a background of Christmas Music, Winston's year 7,8 and 9 Girls Rugby players took on SJB in a touch rugby match. 20 girls from Winston attended on the evening. A great increase of numbers compared to what we have had in previous years. Some of the girls had never even played rugby before. After the initial nerves and confusion cleared, both sides played some great rugby throughout the matches.

As girls' rugby continues to grow, Winston is entering more tournaments throughout the year and organising fixtures like this one. Even more excitingly it has been confirmed that our U16 girls have a place at the prestigious Rosslyn Park 7s Festival and will be joining the two boys teams we have entered over the last two years. Something to look forward to in 2026.

Well done to all the girls involved!

Join Drama Club!

 Enthusiastic Year 7 Students

Over the past two terms, our Year 7 Drama Club has been buzzing with creativity, laughter, and teamwork. Every week, around 70 enthusiastic Year 7 students joined together to explore drama, build confidence, and most importantly, have fun.
A huge thank you goes to our incredible Year 11 Prefects, who dedicated their time to hosting the sessions and guiding our younger students. We also want to celebrate our Year 9 Drama Mentors, who stepped up brilliantly to lead games and activities, bringing energy and imagination to every Friday.
The club has been a true highlight of the term, with students enjoying everything from improvisation games to performance challenges. To top it all off, we ended with a festive Christmas-themed Friday, full of seasonal fun and laughter,  the perfect way to close the term!
Well done to everyone involved, your commitment and creativity have made Drama Club a huge success!

Young Singer of the Year

 Outstanding Vocal Performance

Young Singer of the Year 2025 at The Winston Churchill School 🎤

Our 2025 Young Singer of the Year competition was the biggest one yet, showcasing extraordinary talent from across the school. With 23 finalists ranging from Year 7 to Year 11, the evening was filled with confidence, passion and fantastic musical performances.

During the day, finalists took part in a microphone masterclass and soundchecks led by Mrs Antony, with support from Miss Fletcher, helping them prepare for their moment in the spotlight.

This year featured two categories instead of the usual one with students performing contemporary or musical theatre songs. Over 50 students originally auditioned in one or both of the categories back in early November and from this the final 23 were selected. They were then placed in one of the categories and asked to choose their competition piece. The variety of styles chosen made for a wonderfully diverse and entertaining event.

The audience were also treated to outstanding performances from two of our school choirs. First up were Bella Voce Girls Choir, who delivered a heartfelt rendition of “I Smile” by Kirk Franklin, and then Boys Voices performed an energetic version of “Without You” by David Guetta. Both groups added something truly special to the evening.

Our impartial judges, Mr Drake and Miss Watson, knew nothing about the rehearsals or performers beforehand. All preparations were kept secret until the singers stepped onto the stage, ensuring a fair and unbiased judgement.

Prize Winners

With such a high standard this year, we awarded six prizes:

· Young Singer of the Year: Aneira Y10

· Musical Theatre Winner: Ellis Y10

· Contemporary Winner: Summer Y10

· Upper School Winner: Luci Y11

· Lower School Winners: Lucy and Chloe Y9

· Best Newcomer: Tiffany Y7

Congratulations to the winners and every student performed with professionalism and courage, making this a truly unforgettable event.

A huge thank you also goes to Miss Wells, who delivered exceptional sound and lighting throughout the evening, supported by Steffan, ensuring the production ran smoothly from start to finish.

The entire event was a celebration of talent, dedication and hard work. It was also wonderful to see how the older/more experienced singers supported our younger/less experienced singers. Congratulations to all our finalists—your hard work and passion shone brightly on stage. We can’t wait to see what next year brings!
