Tough Mudders
11 of our most daring teachers completed a 12 mile, 24
obstacle course on Sunday for “help for heroes”. Mannan Mohamed, John
Lawson, Rebecca Lund, Andea Howie, Sarah Southern, Holly Nettleton, Josh Hearn,
Barry Goosen, Alex MacKula, Phillip Moss and Martin Byrne began and completed
the challenge that included lots of mud; electrocutions by 10,000v; monkey bars
and hoops; climbing Everest and pretty much anything else that could be thrown
their way. If running the course wasn’t enough they had to carry another “hero”
for part of it also!!
The team managed to raise £700 for the charity picking up a
few cuts and bruises along the way. Needless to say they were all present and
ready to be counted again Monday morning.
The Year 11 Boys' Football Team Continue to Impress
The year 11 students played in the Surrey County Cup Final on
Thursday 24th April at Fulham’s Training Ground in New Malden.
The game started off at a frantic pace with both teams pushing
for an early goal. For all of Overton’s early possession they couldn’t break
down the compact, resilient and well organised Winston’s defensive. As
the half grew older Winston began to play much better football, chances came
through Rob Atkinson, a header expertly tipped over by their sensational goalie
and Harry Chew was denied by the body of the goalkeeper of which his shot that
crept agonisingly wide of the post. On another day we would have been 2 goals
up by half time.
The second half pattern of play was the same as the firsts as
Overton started the better, it didn’t last long as Winston came close with a
few chances and some great set pieces delivered into the very resolute Overton
penalty area.
With 25 minutes left Overton were awarded a free kick centrally
from 30 yards out. The left footed centre half for Overton ran up to it and hit
a curling strike that flew into the top right corner with Ben Weston helpless
to reach it, it truly was a fantastic strike.
Winston huffed and puffed and it only seemed like a matter of
time before they would equalise. They had shots cleared of the line, Overton’s
goalkeeper again was in great form and kept Winston at bay. On another day
Winston would have won this game but sometimes this happens in Football and you
have to give credit to Overton and especially their goalkeeper who was
definitely man of the match.
Despite the loss this was a great achievement by the Year 11
lads following up their semi-final exit of the national cup, they have a
district semi-final on the 29th April and hopefully they will finish
of their season by retaining the District cup at Woking FC on Tuesday 6th
4.30 KO.
