Solving the Whitechapel Murders!
Year 8 have been engrossed in a history enquiry, trying to solve the mystery of Jack the Ripper and the Whitechapel murders. They have had to gather and analyse evidence about each of the suspects and then investigate three of the suspects in more detail. The three suspects are the ones that the students have found compelling evidence, leading them to believe that they could be the murderer. Group presentations will then be made to the class, presenting their case.
Y8 Geography: Enquiry Based Learning
Having developed a scheme of enquiry for their Environmental Geography Unit 8WE have recently been investigating the impacts of natural resource use through an enquiry based approach to learning. In "expert" groups students investigated the wider socio-economic and environmental issues stemming from effects of human use of natural resources. The groups collaborated using Office 365 software to produce presentations on topics such as river pollution, sea pollution, air pollution, resource depletion, land degradation and habitat loss. The images here show the students using the tablets in the Discovery Space to share their presentations in "Jigsaw" groups and develop their breadth of knowledge and understanding. The learning and engagement of the students has been excellent!
