Assemblies this Week
My assemblies this week have focused on the need to engage in conversations; putting social media to one side and actually talking to each other. Students were shown a series of images taken by Eric Pickersgill who removed the smartphones and digital devices from his portraits of everyday life. I asked the question have we stopped communicating face to face, having discussions, debates and arguments; have we lost the art of conversation?
I have encouraged students and staff to have conversations about the issues facing our world and what we know and more importantly, what we don't know about each situation.
Some of these issues are very challenging and sensitive but at Winston we believe that it is important to have open and frank discussions to develop further our understanding, which then informs our opinions.
