Developing Rugby at Winston

Winston at the Rosslyn Park National Rugby Sevens Festival

For the second year running, Winston Churchill School participated in the prestigious Rosslyn Park Rugby Sevens Festival, this year expanding to two teams entering. Our students had the opportunity to compete against some of Britain's most established rugby schools, including Clifton College, putting our developing rugby program to the test against institutions with centuries of rugby tradition.
While results may not have always gone our way, resilience and determination shown by our students throughout some very difficult matches. What makes their performance even more impressive is that several team members had only been playing rugby for a matter of months, yet they took to the field with confidence and growing skill. Well done to all.
The Winston rugby program continues to flourish, with increasing numbers of students discovering their passion for the sport. Mr Reid has been organising district leagues to provide our students and those in other schools with competitive opportunities. Helped by Mr Lovell-Smith, Mr Gatty and Mr Kok, the program is building foundations for future success.
Girls’ rugby has also grown substantially this year at Winston. With Mr Costard and Miss Guinan taking the lead, numbers at training have significantly grown. Having been let down for multiple fixtures this year, we hope to get them a place to attend Rosslyn Park next year and have more consistent fixtures.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Rory MacDonald Property for their generous sponsorship of our team kit and entry into the Rosslyn Park Sevens. Their support has enabled our students to participate in this prestigious tournament and represent Winston School on a national stage.
Looking to the future, we hope rugby at Winston will continue to grow to allow our students more incredible experiences like this.
Mr Reid
