Winston's Young Musician of the Year Competition
On Thursday 10th September the Music Department held our Young Musician of the Year competition for 2025-26 (postponed due to the extreme temperatures in late June). The evening saw 22 students fighting it out to be crowned our champion, with the competition judged by Stuart McSweeny, Head of A Level Music at Farnborough Sixth Form College. Each of the 22 students who took part gave outstanding performances with many tackling pieces of exceptional difficulty, such as Yin Sing, who performed Beethoven's Spring Sonata on violin, and Charlotte, who played Liebestraum no.3 by Liszt on piano.
The students chose to perform in many different styles from classical to rock and every one of them should be exceptionally proud of the level of performance they produced. In the end, however, there could only be one runner-up and one winner.
Second place was awarded to Jacob with his incredible performance of Under A Glass Moon on the guitar and first place was awarded to Violet for her exceptional performance of Aozora.
In his closing remarks Stuart McSweeny praised our students for their hard work and dedication to music, expressing how impressed he was with each and every one of them.
