Exploring Mandala Patterns
Mandala Patterns
In
their art classes this past half term, Year 7 have been looking at the
importance of art within culture, focusing on Mandala patterns and the use of
colour. The class 7WT started off by blending oil pastels together to create a
colourful background, which they then transferred their own Mandala design onto
using the poly printing method. The students had to understand the concept of
repeated pattern and how colours work together to make their own Mandalas
vibrant and eye-catching.
The
class then decided to develop their work further by using textiles to create a
print. Each student tie dyed their own square of fabric to then print onto with
the same poly printing method. This development of outcome was very successful,
and each fabric Mandala will be sewn together to create a collaborative
tapestry.

Options Fair
Choices, Choices!
On Thursday, Year 9 students had the opportunity to engage with the range of option subjects offered at Winston.
This is the first time that students have been able to select some of the subjects that they will study throughout Years 10 and 11. From engineering to childcare, astronomy and business studies, as well as the arts and PE, there are so many opportunities.
The sessions were well attended by students keen to find out more from our subject leaders and prefects. Students have been provided with really clear advice regarding identifying their preferences and the level of commitment required to achieve positive outcomes.
