Year 10 Biology

 Seeing is Believing!

In a recent GCSE Biology lesson, 10CSI students took their learning to a whole new level by completing an eye dissection. The hands-on activity allowed them to explore the complex structure of the eye up close, providing a deeper understanding of its anatomy.
The students carefully examined the various parts of the eye, identifying key structures such as the lens, sclera, and optic nerve. By carefully dissecting the eye, they were able to see first-hand how these components work together to facilitate vision.

This practical exercise not only enhanced their knowledge of the human eye but also gave them a valuable opportunity to apply their theoretical learning in a real-world setting. It was a memorable experience for the students, reinforcing key concepts while sparking curiosity about the wonders of biology.

The Art of Science

During this Autumn term within the Art Department, Year 9 have been focusing on looking at ‘Close-Up Perspectives’ and creating art inspired by a variety of Close-Up imagery. In the second part of the term, we decided to explore the connection between Art and Science, using colourful and abstract forms that we can get when looking at microscopic images of bacteria and mould.

The students were not afraid to get their hands messy and really got stuck in to create some interesting effects. The final outcomes will be collaborated into a large installation piece within the school.

Focusing on the Russian artist Dasha Plesen who created Petri dishes full of colourful, textured, and abstract forms, the students experimented with powdered paint on a variety of materials, considering how the colours blended, what patterns they could make and how to build up layers of texture.
