The
Art of Science
During this
Autumn term within the Art Department, Year 9 have been focusing on looking at
‘Close-Up Perspectives’ and creating art inspired by a variety of Close-Up
imagery. In the second part of the term, we decided to explore the connection
between Art and Science, using colourful and abstract forms that we can get
when looking at microscopic images of bacteria and mould.
The students were not afraid to get their hands messy and
really got stuck in to create some interesting effects. The final outcomes will
be collaborated into a large installation piece within the school.
Focusing on the Russian artist Dasha Plesen who created Petri
dishes full of colourful, textured, and abstract forms, the students
experimented with powdered paint on a variety of materials, considering how the
colours blended, what patterns they could make and how to build up layers of
texture.
