Music Events at Winston

Young Singer of the Year 2024

On Thursday 5th December Winston hosted our Young Singer of the Year competition. This year 22 students competed against each other for the trophy and Bella Voce and Boys Voices also performed.
During period 1, the finalists came to the Performance Space for a Microphone Masterclass from Mrs Antony where they got to rehearse their song as well as learn some tips and get some feedback on their performance.

On Thursday evening, each student took to the stage and gave it their all for their performance with highlights being Milo who accompanied himself on the piano whilst singing and Bona who sang in Spanish. The students performed a range of songs in either a pop or musical theatre style.

The prizes the students were competing for were: Best Newcomer, Lower School Singer of the Year, Upper School Singer of the Year and the overall Young Singer of the Year wins the trophy. The judges this year were Miss Fletcher and Abi, who won Young Singer last year and Sienna, who won Upper School Singer last year and both are ex-students. The three judges made notes throughout the performances and had the difficult job of deciding our winners. Whilst the judges were making their decisions, Bella Voce performed Don’t Worry About Me by Frances (Arr. Antony) and Boys Voices performed The Getaway by The Strike (Arr. Drake). Both are new choirs this year and they performed beautifully.

Finally, the moment came for our judges to announce the winners. They spoke for a while about some of their favourite performances and gave shout outs to Connie, Milo and Bona for their performances.

The winners were:

Best Newcomer: Oliver (Y7)

Lower School Singer of the Year: Grace (Y9)

Upper School Singer of the Year: Ayanna (Y10)

Young Singer of the Year: Ellis (Y9)

Congratulations to the winners and well done to everyone who performed in the competition, you were all fantastic!

Woking Hospice: Light up a Life

Each year the Hospice holds Light up a Life remembrance services in the local community.

This event is open to everyone to attend, even if your loved one was not cared for by the hospice. It is a chance to take some time out to remember those no longer with us with others who are all going through similar personal journeys.

The Living Advent Calendar

We have had two performances at breaks so far this week for the 2024 Living Advent Calendar. On Monday some of our woodwind players (Archie, Alessia, Hazel and Susanna) joined the Music Dept staff to play some festive carols and then on Tuesday  the Year 8 Band Synaesthesia (Max, Spike, Kurt & Lucas) performed.
