Results at Winston!

Winston V Woking High

Following a tense match, full of skill and experience, the Winston staff football team won their match against Woking High School on penalties after a fulltime score of 4:4.  Students and staff stayed on a very cold evening to support our mighty side, raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The atmosphere was excellent and the game played with tremendous spirit and determination.
Thank you to everyone involved.

Mock Examinations Results Day

On Friday afternoon, Year 11 students came down to the hall to collect their results, achieved in the recent mock examinations,.  The purpose is intended to provide students with the same overall experience that they will have in August, when the public examination results are published.  There was an atmosphere of anticipation and some students waited for their friends before opening the envelope! These results help to focus Year 11 on what needs to be done before they take their finals.  Students had the opportunity to reflect on their preparation and to review their revision strategy. Specific interventions will now be planned to help individuals meet their target grades.

Amazing Arts Awards Evening

Downton Abbey Comes to Winston Churchill!

Simon Donaldson, Head of Performing Arts, said,

“ We are delighted that our Guest of Honour at this year’s Annual Arts Awards Evening was the actress Laura Carmichael, currently playing Lady Edith in the hugely successful ITV drama ‘Downton Abbey’.
Laura presented the Art, Music and Drama Awards to the students on the evening of Thursday, December 4th in an event that recognises and celebrates the wonderful, exhilarating and hugely inspiring work that the students from the Arts Faculty at Winston Churchill School have created over the last twelve months. She ensured that the students were centre stage and congratulated them on their creativity and success.  Laura addressed the audience and talked about the influence of the Arts when at school and the joy of being able to create and develop a character.
My thanks goes to the staff of the Creative Arts Faculty who work exceptionally hard to ensure our students have a diverse range of opportunities and for ensuring we can celebrate their success.

Assemblies at Winston

Remembrance

As a school we are incredibly fortunate to have a Drama Department that contributes fully to the life of the school and enriches the experience of all our students.  Last week's assembly was just one impressive example of their contribution.  The piece reflects a story that took place during World
War 1.  The performance had a profound impact on all those who were able to watch it and it has been talked about across the school community.  Thank you to Mr Jolly and Mrs Finney and all those involved.  To see the film of the assembly click on the link below.  The sound quality is variable, therefore, I suggest that you use headphones to capture the full dialogue, including the passages read in French and German.  There are photographs of the cast below.

Anti-bullying at Winston

The ABC (Anti-Bullying Committee) were in assembly throughout the week and the photographs below show a selection of students involved.
Winston is supporting the national theme of ‘Stop bullying for ALL’ – particularly students with disabilities.
The assemblies were followed up with further discussions in tutor time and PSHCE lessons.
Friday 21st November was Blue Friday  and students were able to enjoy coming to school in mufti, as well as the bake sale, WCS wrist bands - all money raised is used for student mentor training and raising awareness
We are very proud of our student leadership team!
They make a difference.
