Belief, Team Spirt
and Never Giving Up
Barely three months together and
their first 12 games in their first term at Winston has seen progress beyond
their coaches most optimistic expectations.
Our Year 7 football team have managed to secure 11 wins from these 12
matches so far, returning six clean sheets and go into the New Year still in
the National Cup last 32 and in the 3rd Round of the County Cup. In addition we currently sit top of our
District League with five wins from six games.
With this success you would
normally expect a team to have one or a number of professional academy players
in their ranks, but for this side it is not the case. So how have they managed deliver such an
impressive set of results?
In honesty the team management
would probably suggest it is down to a number of factors, but primarily through
the words within the title of this article.
In some games we have been outstanding, others good enough and only once
could we have done better, but throughout we have been focused on our game plan
and played to the final seconds of each game.
Clearly with progress comes
greater challenge, but whatever the outcome for the remainder of the season the
boys have started their time at Winston in fantastic style, with every member
of the squad playing their part in this team effort. As a reward for all their efforts the
Management team treated the squad to a well-earned McDonalds and a week off
from training and games until the hard work starts again in January.
When back the players will need
to focus quickly and prepare to be ready to compete with a team from Toynbee
School, Eastleigh in the National Cup 6th Round. This will be a massive challenge from a very
strong team but if we play to our potential it will be interesting.

Year 7 Celebration Assembly
Year 7 enjoyed a lively celebration assembly this morning. It started with the Upper School Choir performing a carol and then there was recognition given to the successes of the term. Students celebrated great attendance figures and achievement points, as well as subject outcomes. There were several performances from members of the Year Group and the assembly finale of The Twelve Days of Christmas, which raised the roof!
The Language Leaders’ MFL Christmas Market
Language Leaders in Years 7 and 10 set up and ran a Christmas Market this week, where they sold Belgian Waffles with chocolate sauce, French crêpes, Christmas cupcakes and traditional wooden French and German Christmas decorations.
They also ran a raffle where students had the chance of winning a huge Lebkuchen, brought back recently by Year 11s from the German Christmas Market in Aachen.
