Sports Awards Evening
Before half term we were
very lucky to have another Team GB Olympic & World Championship medalist
come to Winston to help deliver our annual Sports Awards Evening. This year it
was the 800m and 4x400m relay runner, Marilyn Okoro.

The evening celebrated a
fantastic year of sporting contribution and achievements from our dedicated
students. The award categories included Coach’s Player and Most Dedicated at
both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 across each sporting discipline. Winston dancers and musicians
were on hand to demonstrate their talents during the ceremony too and we also
welcomed some familiar faces from last year’s leavers who were able to join us.
It was a great evening to reflect on a busy year. The year included so many
opportunities for student growth, pushing boundaries, commitment and engagement
to sport, which in turn fuelled a positive learning environment where all
students of all abilities have been able to flourish in the department.
Marilyn helped to present
the awards to the winners before delivering an inspirational message to close
the night. She was able to share her own personal story of how she grew up
determined to succeed as an athlete despite the lack of ambition within her
neighbourhood in London. Students, staff and parents came away from her speech
feeling inspired and ready to implement Marilyn’s motto of “dream big and never
give up”.
We look forward to celebrating the effort and achievements of our
students again in 2020.
