Working as a Team!

English with 8CE

8CE have been working really hard on both their independence and their ability to collaborate and use each other’s expertise to their benefit. In today’s lesson the class worked in groups, with team captains on six short poetry projects of their choice, all to do with the poem we have been studying:

1) a rewrite of the poem from a different perspective.
2) a group presentation and rap (Mr Collins definitely did not choose this part!)
3) a drama script based on the poem.
4) a poem storyboard.
5) an Instagram post, annotated, about the poem.
6) write a short story based on the poem.

Having team captains gave six students the opportunity to work on their leadership skills, deciding which project their group would be most effective at, as well as leading their group through their work, directing their expertise appropriately.

Working within their groups, students worked collaboratively with each other with a real emphasis on how they speak to each other within groups, as well as how they respond to each other’s suggestions and advice.

At the conclusion of each project, each captain delivered their group’s work to the rest of the class in the form of a presentation of both their ideas and their creativity.

Through this lesson 8CE really demonstrated that they have the ability to collaborate well and think completely outside the box when working independently with very little teacher support.
Well done 8CE

Schools County Futsal Tournament

On the 28th November, 6 of the u13 girls football team and 6 of the u15 girls football team travelled to Guildford Spectrum to take part in the first round of the Schools County Futsal Tournament.

Both teams came up against steep competition, playing relentlessly for each of the 15 minute games. The girls had to quickly get accustomed to the rules and fast paced nature of the game.

However, success was had for both Winston teams, as the u15s achieved second place and the u13s won! As a result- the u13s team have now progressed to the Regional rounds (dates to be confirmed!).

The PE Department hopes that the girls continue to be excited about Futsal and will look to run more training sessions for both teams!
Congratulations to all players involved!
