Lets Celebrate in Style
Last Thursday, students and staff from the Drama and Music departments at Winston celebrated the success of their students by hosting the Performing Arts Awards in the performance space.
Pupils who have worked with both Drama and Music throughout their time at Winston got the chance to support each other in a series of awards covering music commendations and the main school productions of Six and School of Rock. Nominees enjoyed their own refreshments in a special seating area with a photographer and each nomination had been delivered previously by a golden envelope throughout the school day.
The catering was provided by Miss. Reynolds and her GCSE students from the food technology department as a new edition to the ceremony this year. The food was amazing, carefully planned and prepared for the all of the guests in attendance.
The technology in the space allowed the event to evolve. With nominees enjoying a personalised approach to each award and reactions being captured by the live cameras around the venue and lighting following each winner.
The students fully embraced the feeling of community by supporting each other throughout the evening and arrived at the event by observing the smart dress code. We were delighted that the parents of those nominated also joined us in dressing up this year. The awards, presented by staff from both departments, ranged from categories such as Best Newcomer (Molly W), Rising Star (Amelia P) and Best Vocal Performance (Olivia L), followed by the highest recognition from each faculty; Outstanding Contribution to Tech (Will J), The M.U.S.I.C Award (Athidh S) and Outstanding Contribution to Drama (awarded to Evangeline F).
It was wonderful to see the success of each student celebrated, most of which have been committed to their chosen discipline of the Performing Arts since their arrival in year 7, getting the chance to recognise the hard work and efforts of those within the school community.
