Award Winning Sport at Winston!

Awards Evening

On Wednesday 2nd December the Gifted and Talented Sport, PE and Dance Cohort had a day to remember. Ross Murray, a 1500m runner who represented Great Britain at the London Olympics ran a selection of workshops. At the beginning of the day, in assembly, he shared his story which prompted a fantastic Qustion & Answer session. Ross then ran two running sessions with our G&T PE students, putting them through their paces and allowing the students to experience running at an Elite Level. Finally our pupils were given an opportunity to question Ross on his training and nutrition; a thoroughly engaging day and certainly a unique opportunity.

The day ran into the evening and we welcomed Ross back for our Annual G&T PE Awards. A night to celebrate the success and triumphs of Winston students across a range of sports. If one Olympian wasn’t enough we also welcomed to the stage Mat Luamanu, a New Zealander, now playing his professional rugby at Harlequins. The night was a great success and a huge congratulations to everyone involved.

                                                            Our fantastic staff team!

"Surrey Young Leaders"

On 3rd December nine lucky students attended the "Surrey Young Leaders" Day at Leatherhead Leisure Centre. This was a packed event with over 100 students from 16 different schools. The students were put through a selection of classroom and practical based activities developing a variety of key skills including communication, confidence and creativity. The students were a credit to Winston Churchill School and themselves.

Well done: Peter Ive, April Gadsby, Lucy Fitzpatrick, Kieran Browne, Natasha Ware, Liam Bowden, Ben Stone, Georgina Sweetland, Finley Mearns

 Year 5 Dance Festival

On Tuesday 1st December our G&T Dance Team ran a Dance Festival for Year 5 pupils from four of our local primary schools. In one hour the dancers were tasked with choreographing a performance to a particular theme, themes included, "Dancing through the Decades" and "Star Signs" amongst others. After the rehearsals were over the groups were set to perform on the Winston stage. A fantastic occasion and a big well done to everyone involved.

Congratulations: Jake Burke, Holly Gardner-Hall, Charlotte Hardy, Lilly Hatcher, Grace Tweddle, Naomi Munday, Heather Denham, Anika Choudhury, Ellie Sharpe, Lauren Shearer, Phoebe Fishlock, Kathryn Belcher.
