Celebrating the Season Of Giving
Today our Head Boy & Head
Girl presented a cheque for in excess of £500 to Mr & Mrs Capel of the
“Christopher’s Smile” charity which raises funds the development of new
targeted drugs to treat childhood cancers http://tinyurl.com/hu8lvus
. The funds were raised by the current Y11 year group during the 2014-15
academic year with special efforts recognised from Hannah Johnston, Lucy Scuse,
Hannah Bance & Emily Betson.
Thinking of Others
Miss Barker-Dodds' Year 8 Tutor Group have been discussing the issue of loneliness and the impact at this time of year, when so many families enjoy spending time together. The group decided to make Christmas cards which will be delivered to those spending time alone over the holiday season. these lovely hand-made cards contain some very thoughtful messages as you can see below.
Assembly this Week
Mr Byrne has asked students to think about the concept of giving in each of our assemblies this week. Students reflected on how they could give small acts of kindness, that were valued yet did not cost any money.
Outbox
Winston’s newly formed Young Enterprise company, Outbox, met
for the first time this week. The Year 10 students, who wrote applications and
went through an interview process, will develop and manage a product (s) in order to turn a
profit, both financially and academically. This experience will give them the
opportunity to develop those skills that employers look for: leadership,
teamwork and communication.
We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our link businessman
from the Young Enterprise Scheme who will meet with the team next week. Watch
this space for future developments!
