PE at Winston

“Mum, I can’t wait to come to Winston!” were the words of a young girl pedalling away on the exercise bike yesterday evening at the Winston Churchill school open evening.
Miss Howe, and the Winston PE department utilised all the sports facilities to the best of their advantage to showcase what is on offer at the school: There was a rugby match as well as both boys’ and girls’ football on the astroturf. Not to mention, a whole array of sporting taster activities across the sports hall, gym and fitness suite.
The penalty shot out against the year 11 prefects proved popular amongst prospectus new pupils, the speed gun was on offer measuring the speed of cricket-bowling, with games of badminton, volleyball and table tennis, and crazy catch competitions also drawing big crowds.
Amongst all of this, the cycling and rowing machines had a steady stream of volunteers trying their hand at travelling as far of a distance as they could throughout the evening. The bike saw a combined distance of 26.34km, and the rowers fulfilled a fantastic effort of 23.55. A great endeavour, with a total of 49.89km! Equating to the distance from Winston to Gatwick airport! Undoubtedly a successful evening- The Winston PE Department would like to thank everyone for coming along and getting involved, and look forward to meeting new students in September.

Assembly This Week

Mr Burrows explored the importance of attendance with all the students this week. The big question being 'why does it matter?'  He looked particularly at the impact on GCSE results and how attendance and punctuality can impact on references in the future.

GCSE Geography

A sample of GCSE Geography homework submitted by year 10. They really did go above and beyond with their homework. The work showed they take pride in their work and are really committed to the GCSE course.  Miss Harris is very impressed with the standards being achieved.
