Enjoying life at Winston

Lunch with Year 7 Parents

We were delighted to welcome fifty parents to lunch on Wednesday 12th October.  There was an excited buzz throughout the hall and the Churchill Suite, as parents had the opportunity to talk to catering staff, as they selected their lunch from a wide range of options.  The roast pork was the favourite on the day but the wraps were also declared to be delicious.  Mrs Smith, Year Leader and Mr Toovey, Deputy Year Leader were present to talk to parents and members of the Senior Leadership Team had the opportunity to engage with parents in this informal setting.

We are looking forward to the next lunch with parents which will take place on:

 2nd February 2017 at 12.10pm.

Year 8 Latin

Students enjoyed a Latin class this morning, where they had the opportunity to dress in a toga.  Latin lessons blend together the learning of the language alongside understanding the culture and social setting of the time.

Year 9 Food Technology

Students in Year 9 were planning, preparing and cooking recipes to illustrate dishes from around the world.  Every student had developed their own recipe and had to present their finished product within one hour.

A Musical Lunchtime

Today’s performance during each lunch break was from Norma Jean Martine and her band (including our drum teacher Gary Tough). One of the  pictures below is from the Q&A session she did with GCSE, VCert and Y9 students during period 5. The information she gave our students was excellent and a real insight into how you get into the music industry, from courses to take at university to getting yourself noticed by big record labels such as Virgin EMI. We really hope her album launch today and sales this week are successful and that we’ll hear more of her in the future.
