Summer at Winston

New Displays

The Art Department regularly change the displays that are around the school and in the Art Block.  Below are a few examples.

There will be a Private View on Friday 30th June to which you are most welcome to attend.  The invitation is below.

Assembly This Week

Mr Drake engaged students in the theme of challenges and opportunities and took students back to his childhood experience of computer games, including one called 'Wonder Boy'!  This came on a cassette tape and could take 15 minutes to load up.  It illustrated the point that life present challenges yet if you take the opportunities present you can be successful.  This was then linked directly to extra curricular opportunities and how this presented the chance to develop new skills, to be involved with the school and create your own success.
Mr Drake quoted a Chinese proverb ' Teachers open doors but you must enter by yourself.'

Staff Success

As part of our work with the 2015 Partnership some of our staff have the opportunity to be involved in Middle Leadership training.  The photograph below shows the final session at The Magna Carta School, where each participant had to give a presentation on the work they have undertaken as part of the programme.  Congratulations to Miss Chapman, Mr Chandler and Miss Ruffle.

TeachMeet

In the same week as the Middle Leaders presentations the 2015 Partnership held a TeachMeet, where staff from all of our schools come together to share ideas and good practice.  This time Collingwood hosted the event, making us very welcome and creating a great atmosphere. The evening was opened by Isabella Wallace who is the co-author of the bestselling teaching guides, Pimp Your Lesson! and Talk-Less Teaching. This was followed by teachers from each of the schools sharing an aspect of their work with the audience.  Miss Harris and Mrs Southern talked through some of their most successful strategies, incorporating the Winston Competencies and key questioning techniques.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising the evening.
