Work at Winston

Year 8 Geography

Year 8 have made a great start to the new Geography course. They have planned a sequence of lessons about plate tectonics. One of the learning questions they develop was ‘What was the earth like millions of years ago?’ Students worked collaboratively to share their thinking and presented their ideas. Some students went above and beyond and completed independent research at home.

Miss Harris was impressed with the fantastic effort from all groups.

Primary Music Day

Mr Drake and the Music Department organised a day of music making, on Thursday 15th June,  with students from our local primary schools.  They arrived not having played together before and left having produced a brilliant concert which included 'body' percussion, singing, a violin ensemble, a wind band, a key board 'army' and forty guitar players!
Winston students supported the event throughout the day and they were impressed with the enthusiasm and skill of the pupils.  Some of our Winston students received their Music Colours during the concert.
The parents I spoke to at the end of the concert were very impressed with the outcome and the way in which everyone had worked together to enjoy making music.
Thank you to Mr Drake and his team for a fantastic day.

Winston Young Carers

At The Winston Churchill School we appreciate that there are many demands on students who provide care and we do our best to meet the needs of Young Carers in school. As a result, we are working hard to raise the profile of students who are Young Carers at Winston to ensure they are proud of the fantastic job they do.

This morning we took some of our Young Carers to a game of Pirate Golf at Hoebridge, Woking. The students enjoyed a round of crazy golf and an opportunity to chat informally with our Family Support Workers and each other who may have a similar caring role at home. It was a huge success and enjoyed by all. As well as organising activities for these students, we also provide regular drop-in sessions to build relationships to enable us to support the students as best we can should they need it.

A great morning for a fantastic bunch of well-deserved students.
