Shakespeare Schools' Festival
Macbeth / G-Live / Wednesday, November 27th
Over 24 students from Years 8 through to Year 11 took part in the
production of ‘Macbeth’, which featured on the Main Stage of G-Live recently,
as part of our school’s involvement with the Shakespeare Schools Festival.
SSF is a cultural education charity that exists to instil
curiosity and empathy, aspiration and self-esteem, literacy and teamwork -
giving young people across the UK the confidence to see that all the world is
their stage. It is the world’s largest youth festival, now in its 19th
year.
This is our 10th year of involvement with the
SSF. Previous productions have included ‘Taming of the Shrew’, ‘Hamlet’, ‘Othello’, ‘The Merry Wives of
Windsor’, ‘The Comedy of Errors’, ‘Twelfth Night’, ‘Richard 111’, ‘Romeo and
Juliet’ and ‘King Lear’.
This year’s ‘Macbeth’ featured an outstanding performance by
Ethan Fleming in the main role of Macbeth, brilliantly supported by Eleanor
Prince as Lady Macbeth. There were superb supporting performances from Josh
Ryley as Banquo and Poppy Raynes, Imogen Clark and Aimee Harrison as the Three
Witches.
Speaking after the show, the SSF theatre director said, “ I’ve done many Festivals, I’ve seen many,
many Macbeth’s but I have never seen one directed or performed like this
before. It was a hugely successful, immersive show”
