Year 6 at Winston

 Taster Day!

As a new development to our transition programme, Year 6 students were invited to spend a day at Winston, experiencing what it is like to be in a secondary school.  We welcomed 450 students eager to explore the school and try out different lessons in our specialist facilities.

Some primary schools brought their whole cohort and we were then able to organise a training day for the staff, while the children were in their lessons.  They then all met up for lunch, a Winston favourite, chicken or fish and chips and finally on the AstroTurf, at the end of the day, for a photograph of this huge group, taken by a drone!

The thunder and lightening added atmosphere to the day but plan B for the lunch break rolled into action and the weather finally cleared up for the end of the day.

The children were excited and joined in with enthusiasm. One student went to find Mrs Kovic, Director of Sport, to say that he that it was the best PE lesson Ever!  The scones were a huge success and so was the treasure hunt in sand, the children will explain!  We have had music, computing, English, design technology and so much more.  The whole school was buzzing with with anticipation, as to what would be happening in their next lesson.

When you come to Open Evening and on a school tour, your child will be able to show you where their lessons took place.

There are some great images below for you to enjoy and you can ask your children all about each lesson.  The drone footage is at the end.

A huge thank you to Mr Drake, who planned the day from the initial idea through to the end, every member of staff who supported your children throughout the day and our student mentors who were amazing!
