Radio Woking

The former Mayor of Woking, Councillor Derek McCrum has, since March, been reading short stories on Radio Woking.  Children were then asked to draw pictures, inspired by these  stories.  At Winston we have been promoting reading and we are delighted that so many young people listened to these stories and trust that when they join us they will go on to develop their enjoyment of literature further.

Year 7 English

Students in this class had prepared arguments as to which is better, the book or the film.  Students presented to the rest of their class in our current library, as this work has been part of our strategy to encourage reading across the school.

Cash In The Mathemattic

This week the maths department have been running their Cash In The Mathemattic themed week.  Throughout the week students in all maths classes have been looking at different areas of personal finances including budgeting, holidays, running a bank account, detecting fraud and paying taxes.  Student who contributed well in their lessons were awarded with some Cash In The Mathemattic money and had the chance to win prizes from Mr Pound as he visited each lesson.  The Maths Department also ran the assembly this week which looked at VAT and tested the students’ knowledge of which items had VAT added to them.
