Celebrating Participation in Sport

 Sports Day!

Key Stage 3 Sport’s Day

We are so glad that the weather held out for Key Stage 3 Sport’s Day, with almost all students from Years 7, 8 & 9 spending the day on the field participating in athletic events and cheering on their classmates. There’s is a real buzz about Winston today!

Our Year 7 reporters spoke to students about their experience of the day so far:

“Jenny, a Year 7 student, won 1st place in the 800 metre and participated in the javelin as well. She is happy with her successes and is thoroughly enjoying the day. Ava too was jumping for joy at winning 1st place in the high jump for her team.  Lastly Mila’s first place sprint across the 100 metre finish line was the highlight of the day.

Year 9s, Seven and Kristian, are also enjoying the day, as they reflected on their successes so far. Seven went the distance in the shot put, and was eagerly waiting his second event later in the day, while Kristian beat his personal best, running a 12 second 100 metre and buzzing for the 200 metre coming up shortly.

Mrs. Walton helped to organise the day with the PE Department, declared this was the “best day on the school calendar”. She loves helping with Sport’s Day and is so glad that it could go ahead this year, with all the disruption to sport that has occurred over the past 18 months. She’s especially looking forward to period 5, when the rest of the school, students and staff, will join them up on the field for the form and staff relays! The day is ‘organised chaos’ with so many events happening all throughout the day, lots of rostas and rotas and tallies and sign ups, but she is grateful for the team of staff and students helping to run the day.’

From the PE Department:

What an incredible day! The first Winston Sports Day that many of our KS3 students had experienced, however it was amazing to have everyone getting stuck into their events and embracing the spirit of cheering on their peers.

It was great to be back to some sort of normality and see the physical, emotional and social benefits sport can bring to our students. Some used their resilience trying events for the first time and others showed their determination to beat their personal bests.

Well done Site Team for winning the staff relay! We wish Mr Cotton (and 2 other staff members) a speedy recovery after injuries during the staff relay. Thanks to all members of staff, Winston Alumni, the Yr10 & 11 PE Prefects for all their help and especially Mr Cotton for organising the day.

Well done Winston! 🙂
