Amazing Students!

'The Boy Preference'

Each year the National Theatre asks ten writers to create new plays for performance by young theatre
companies all over the country. From Scotland to Cornwall and Northern Ireland to Norfolk, Connections celebrates great new writing for the stage – and the energy, commitment and talent of young theatre-makers.  Winston was one of only two schools in the country to be selected to perform in this festival. This is to the credit of Mr Donaldson and his team.  Mrs Remnant directed the play, enabling the students to demonstarte their considerable skills.

The Boy Preference
By Elinor Cook
Performed by The Winston Churchill School

In an affluent suburb the birth of a boy is welcomed with shouts of joy, but when a girl is born, the neighbours say nothing. One night, Joey looks out of his bedroom window and sees many women with a strange glow around them – are they the ‘missing women’?

The performance took place at the Soho Theatre, London on Tuesday 24th March, at 7.00pm.  I was delighted to be able to get tickets for this sell-out performance.  Our students were amazing; they took hold of the challenging material and produced an superb performance, drawing the audience into the complex story.  They all had a fantastic day and were in the words of the staff 'spot on' in everything they did.
