Taking a Look Inside a Heart 🫀
Today, many of our year 7 and 8 students have taken the opportunity to dissect a lamb's heart, which they all thoroughly enjoyed. This could not have been possible without the expert help from Mr Pearson and Miss Guinan.
In biology, dissecting a lamb's heart allows students to explore the structure and function of mammalian hearts, providing hands-on understanding of cardiovascular anatomy. The lamb heart, similar to a human heart in structure, offers an opportunity to examine major features like the atria, ventricles, valves, and blood vessels.
During dissection, students can observe the heart's muscular walls and study how blood flows through its chambers, gaining insights into how oxygenated and deoxygenated blood are circulated experience reinforces knowledge of heart physiology and the circulatory system.
