Year 10 and 11 Rugby:
Winston 26-22 Tomlinscote
Playing in their new kit at Chobham RFC, Winston produced a remarkable second-half comeback to secure a thrilling 26-22 victory over Tomlinscote in what was the first 15-a-side game for most of the squad.
Playing uphill in the first half, Winston struggled to contain a well-drilled Tomlinscote side that capitalised on early pressure, running in three unanswered tries. Despite their defensive efforts, Winston went into half-time trailing significantly, needing a major response after the break.
A team talk led by experienced students saw a second half transformation. Playing with confidence and ambition, Winston played an expansive, running style of rugby, stretching the Tomlinscote defence and exploiting space out wide, something that had been practiced in their after-school training sessions. The comeback began with a well-worked team try, lifting the energy levels across the squad. As momentum swung in our favour, Winston's resilience shone through, scoring three more tries and adding the decisive conversions to edge ahead on the scoreboard.
The final stages were tense, with Tomlinscote pressing hard, but Winston's defence held firm to see out the game and secure a memorable 26-22 victory. A fantastic effort from a developing side.
The team now look to the Rosslyn Park 7s festival later in March. Winston will be competing in two competitions this year the under 14 and under 16 boys. We will face prestigious private schools such as Clifton College. A great opportunity for our students to go toe to toe with some of the best Rugby Schools in the country. More information will come out to students and parents soon. Attached is a link to the Rosslyn Park website where more information regarding who we will be facing can be found.
