Activities Week: Friday

The History Mystery

The challenge was to work out who killed Emmett Till in 1955.  The students had to produce police investigation boards to show what they had found out.  The department were really impressed with the work of almost all of the students.  We played them Bob Dylan's song about this case at the end of the session so they could find out what happened to the murderers.

 A Midsummers Night's Dream

A play in a week! The group of students had no idea what they would be doing first thing on Monday morning and by Friday afternoon they were performing 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' to an audience of parents, staff and students.  Each member of the cast rose to the challenge and created a lively, engaging, good piece of theatre.

Year 8 in France

The Music Business

Students from years 7,8 and 9 have been to different primary schools every day to work with year 5 and 6 students on projects based on habitats protected by the WWF. Led by Winston students, the primary students had to write and perform a soundscape representing ocean, woodland, rain forest or polar landscapes. After that, the students produced a voice over and a flyer persuading the public to donate to the WWF.

The Winston students have developed excellent leadership skills throughout the week and have produced some fantastic work with the primary students.

Dancing on the Patio

A 'flash-mob' took place at break, on the lower patio, much to the enjoyment of our students and ended with a everyone joining a conga line around the playground!  Georgie Heel, our Dance Tutor, has been working with the students all week, helping them to create the performance.  The students have throughly enjoyed working with her and are now looking forward to developing dance for all across the school.

Bubble Football

Delicious Snacks and Tasty Bites!

Students completed their final day in Technology by producing an amazing range of sweet and savoury goodies, which they devoured at lunchtime.  The pastry was light and crisp and the cakes moist and beautifully decorated.  Thank you for the plate of delicious samples!

Printing

Students have been developing their own prints of heroes and villains!

Self-help

Miss Chapman is very grateful for the support of Year 10 students in preparing her new teaching space for September.  They have been absolute stars!

A Journey Through Stage and Screen
Thursday 9th July
Today we went to London to watch “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time”. The play was amazing and thought provoking.  Everyone enjoyed the play and it made us realise that not everyone sees things in the same way.

Friday 10th July
Today we edited trailers about our journey through ‘Stage and Screen’ using multiple clips which we filmed throughout the week. Using Sony Vegas (professional editing equipment) we created our films adding music, transitions, and title cards – making sure everything flowed.

The Battle of Waterloo

The battle continued to day with more children taking either the English or French side and working in teams to determine who would win.

 The Jewellery Package

Today we started off by marking, measuring and cutting comb joints to make up jewellery boxes, then attached the base and produced a lid with decorative veneers before lining with felt to protect the jewellery. During drying time the girls then assembled their Tatty Devine inspired jewellery they designed and drew up yesterday using 2D Design on the computer and lasercut. Charlotte Wells in Year 9 used her passion for textiles and instead of making a box, made a jewellery roll which also holds and stores the jewellery safely and is handy for the holidays. It has been a great week and the students have developed their skills immensely.
